lingering

it was the last night i’d ever look

at you

looking at me

that way.

you were so ready

to be done with me

but you came for just one last glance

to remember, through your eyes,

who you were giving up on.

you walked away from my front door

and you have not returned there

since.

but frozen

is an invisible image

on my cold, concrete

stoop-

there lives the lost words,

the confusion,

the resentment,

the begging

between a girl

and a boy.

solidified in motion

is an unfinished argument

there, at my front door

waiting to be resolved.
